Is there a right or wrong way to scrap?

So... Is there? I'm sure many of you think there isn't... There are so many ways in which you can scrap... And it's really up to you...

But apparently, I feel that when your layouts are being judged by others, they always look out for the right ways of scrapping... Whether consciously or unconsciously.. I don't understand why... But don't you agree with me?

I've seen examples which are more visually interesting, or when there are interesting techniques and ideas to put things together... But they are not being appreciated... Why? I don't understand.. I think they are best in the world!! You don't see them anywhere else.. and for being able to put the different ideas and techniques in an interesting way, i think they should be commended for that! But there are always RULES of scrapping that seem to govern how your works are being judged...

I've always wondered about this question... Do you? Let me know what you think...

“Technique is really personality. That is the reason why the artist cannot teach it, why the pupil cannot learn it, and why the aesthetic critic can understand it. To the great poet, there is only one method of music -- his own. To the great painter, there is only one manner of painting -- that which he himself employs. The aesthetic critic, and the aesthetic critic alone, can appreciate all forms and all modes. It is to him that Art makes her appeal.” - Oscar Wilde

Now the real question when it comes to competition is.. are the judges worthy critics? Or are they just blinded by the only type of aesthetic that they know?

Unfortunately, some competitions are judged by people who only 'get' one kind of aesthetic and anything beyond that, it is 'wrong'. And when that happens, the competition becomes one that will not reward those who are brilliant in other alternative ways. And that is tragic for the craft.
